Our mission is to empower the global academic community through equitable access to knowledge, support, and meaningful opportunities.
Founded in Canada and built with a global vision, we are committed to supporting prospective graduate students, current students, and postdocs; especially those from underrepresented groups, immigrants, and international students who often face unequal access to academic information, networks, and resources.
We are building a community where everyone can confidently navigate academic systems while shaping their future careers and, for many, their new lives in a new country. By combining peer-to-peer mentorship, community-driven insights, part-time work opportunities, and AI-powered tools, we close information gaps, reduce barriers, and make academic and professional growth more equitable and accessible.
We believe in a world where every scholar, regardless of background or resources, has the opportunity to succeed.
Our vision is to create a transparent, inclusive, and globally connected academic ecosystem where anyone, anywhere, can access trustworthy, lived-experience-based insights about universities, research environments, and academic pathways.
By leveraging privacy-first design, cutting-edge AI, and a network built exclusively for graduate students and postdocs, we aim to redefine how people navigate academia. We envision a world where scholars support one another, build meaningful connections across borders, and gain flexible opportunities to earn while empowering their peers.
We strive to build the world’s most supportive and equitable community for students, researchers, and future scholars; one that elevates underrepresented voices, opens doors for immigrants and international students, and removes barriers to academic and professional growth.
Akadion began with a journey shaped by resilience, hope, and the belief that opportunity should not depend on where you come from. The idea behind Akadion was shaped by Dr. Soha Ahmadi’s own academic journey. In her words:
After completing a master’s degree in my home country, I dreamed of earning a PhD abroad. For years, every attempt failed. When my family and I moved to Canada, I wasn’t sure whether to keep pursuing that dream or start working. Everything changed when a few people at the University of Toronto encouraged me to try one more time. One PhD student took the time to guide me through the application process, and just a few months later, I received an offer to begin my PhD at the University of Toronto. That experience opened my eyes to the power of peer support. I promised myself I would help others the same way, but balancing research, teaching, and family made it difficult to support as many students as I wished. This led to the creation of Farname, an initiative where a small group of graduate students and I helped many prospective students navigate the complexities of graduate applications. As I continued my journey through a postdoc, lecturing, and academic work, I realized something deeper: students don’t only need support to get in; they need support to thrive during their studies. Universities offer valuable resources, but the most practical, honest, and empowering insights often come from peers who have lived the same experiences.
Driven by this belief, and inspired by entrepreneurship and the drive of graduate students and postdocs to turn their knowledge into impact, our team came together to create Akadion. Built by those who have walked the path themselves, Akadion is a platform and community designed to make academic journeys more transparent, more supportive, and more equitable; for students everywhere, especially immigrants, international students, and those from underrepresented backgrounds.
Akadion exists because peer support changed one person’s life, and now, together, we’re building a global community where it can change thousands more.

1. Peer Support & Collective Knowledge
We believe the strongest guidance comes from those who have lived the experience. By elevating the voices of graduate students and postdocs, we create support that is practical, honest, and human. Academic success is not an individual journey; it is a shared one. Our platform amplifies the collective expertise of peers, creating a space where everyone can learn, contribute, and grow together. We learn from each other, grow together, and continuously improve the way we support students around the world.
2. Equity & Inclusivity
We believe talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. Akadion removes barriers: geographical, social, financial, and cultural, to make support accessible to all students, especially immigrants, international students, and those from underrepresented groups. We strive to build a global community where every person feels seen, respected, and supported. Diversity is not an add-on; it is the strength that fuels better ideas, better mentorship, and a better future.
3. Trust Through Transparency
We build trust by encouraging clear, open, and transparent communication between mentors, mentees, and our team. Guidance should be honest, realistic, and grounded in lived experience.
4. Purposeful Innovation & Empowerment
Every tool, feature, and partnership we build serves one purpose: to make academic journeys clearer, more supportive, and more accessible. We uplift one another by turning challenges into opportunities for growth. Through thoughtful design, student-focused solutions, and a commitment to continuous improvement, we empower peers to share their expertise and students to move forward with confidence
